B.maculatus is widely present in Europe and also known as the "Little Grannom". It is a typical summer sedge and it possible to see it from end of May to beginning of September.




Its prefered habitats are streams rich of waterplants. In this type of waters is possible to experience impressive hatches.




Like for its larger sister (Grannom/B.subnubilus), the female's abdomen is mass of green eggs, thus its other common english name of Green Butt.







The B.maculatus body is only 4-5 mm.




Its wings 5-8 mm.
