This morning I found this beautiful Mayfly in the garden. Its scientific name is Potamanthus luteus. At first glance, it may be confused with the real mayfly (Ephemera danica), similar color, big fly, three cerci and almost overlapping hatching period. Its habitat - like the name reflects - is the lower part of the river, where water temperature in summer can raise above 20 degrees celsius.

I have often seen hatching in the nearby river, never in quantity to awake fish activity though. Or perhaps its flavor does not match the fish taste?
