The B.risi is a small (8-12 mm.) stonefly present throughout all Europe. The nymphs hatch from April till June.

The back is dark brown and darker then the abdonmen.

Each tarsal segment is as long as or longer then preceding segment (key for family Taeniopterygidae)

The epicranial suture is U-shaped and forms an angle of at least 130 degrees or more.

The 10th tergite is characterized by two small light spots.
